Lake Placid Chosen "America's Best Outdoor Town"

This just in......Lake Placid has been chosen America's Best Outdoor Town, as featured on MSN's City Guide:

"In choosing the “101 Best Outdoor Towns: Unspoiled Places to Visit, Live & Play” (The Countryman Press, 2007), authors Sarah Tuff and Greg Melville researched access to national and state parks, major bodies of water, hiking and mountain biking trails, and ski and snowboard terrain; population; affordability; and such downtown resources as gear shops, brewpubs and coffee houses.

This top 10 is adapted from the book; these towns have not only back doors to some of the country’s best adventure terrain, but also lively, livable communities that are dedicated to playing in and preserving the great American playgrounds."

Told you so!

Ripped off!

After all the hub-bub about a huge winter storm, there is barely one inch of new snow here in Lake Placid. This happens fairly frequently; winter storm warnings are posted and I super efficiently prepare for the power outage, and we are robbed! Ok, seriously, I have no grounds for whining, there is plenty of snow on the ground for skiing. And it is snowing pretty hard out right now; the forecast says we could still get six inches or more as the storm progresses. I just wanted to wake up to a huge blanket of freshies - I had put in a request for 12+.
Speaking of whining, I had the pleasure of skiing to Marcy Dam yesterday. The truck trail is in great shape; there is full coverage the entire way to the dam. Conditions were nice and fast - we enjoyed a very fast ski out! A pile of new snow or not - I am extremely grateful for such awesome early-season conditions. Whiteface is phenomenal too. Skiing's great in New York State! Let me know if you want in on living or owning Adirondack real estate in one of America's best playgrounds. The photo is taken standing on Marcy Dam - looking out toward Mt. Colden and the other High Peaks of the Adirondacks. You can see evidence of the November and December 2007 snowfall on the Colden slide.
