Adirondack Fall Secret

Fall is most definitely in the air here Lake Placid, New York. Chilly and colorful changes are everywhere. If it weren’t for the fact that ski season happens in the winter, autumn could be my favorite time of year in the Adirondacks. The leaves are only ~20% changed and already the eye candy is stunning. Temperatures have dipped into the 30s at night and the lakes leaking their warmth treat us to the bittersweet beauty of morning lake fog.
I don’t do this very often, but here’s a secret tip: if you are not a skier, fall is the best time to visit the Adirondacks. There are no bugs to swat this time of year and the air seems especially clean and crisp. A hike or paddle in the Adirondacks, surrounded by florescent, mind-boggling colorful trees on a background of sparkling blue sky is indeed medicine for the soul.
