Adirondack Moose Whisperer Speaks Again

The Adirondack Moose Whisperer and resident biologist will make a command return appearance at the Adirondack Museum this Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. as part of the Great Adirondack Moose Festival. Taking part in and around Indian Lake, the inaugural two-day event sounds great and offers a nice mix of hands-on activities and intellectual and physical explorations. From taking a car tour of one of the most pristine woodlands in the Adirondacks, to participating in a 2.4 mile hike through moose habitat to learning about moose behavior, this event has it covered. You can even enter the "Count the Moose Scat" contest. Here's the full schedule for the Great Adirondack Moose Festival.
Naturally, in my book, the highlight of the weekend will be Ed's talk, "Moose on the Loose in the Adirondacks," although I admit to a bias. Ed Reed, a Wildlife Biologist for NY State Department of Environmental Conservation, will tell us all about the moose and how they are making a big come back in the Adirondacks. I am certain he will explain how part of the moose repopulation is due to their penchant for long distance swimming.
Because they are such strong swimmers, I've always wondered if moose have webbed feet. As a matter of fact, I will have an Adirondack Candy Man Moose lollipop for the first person this Saturday afternoon to ask Ed if moose have webbed feet.
