Adirondack Lifestyle Ski Conditions Report

The warm front that swept through the Adirondacks on Sunday, December 12, took with it 16 inches of snow and left a frozen, 2-inch base in its wake. After peaking at 46 degrees on Sunday, the temperature dropped to below freezing last night and snow is currently falling. The National Weather Service is calling for a cold and snowy week in the Adirondacks. The snow pack will rebuild, this time on a frozen base.
While Whiteface is open and making snow, the backcountry is once again in very iffy shape, with skiing possible only on fire and trucks trails. Mount Van Hoevenberg is closed until this Wednesday and experience tells me it will be fine by then.
