Baby It's Cold Outside

As much as I love living this Adirondack Lifestyle, it took some getting use to 21 years ago when we moved here. It wasn't the traffic and noise I missed. Nor did the exhortations of friends and family cause pause. We handled the issues of: "What about your son's education?!" which I've addressed here before, and "There is no shopping!" which doesn't even deserve a response. No, the real adjustment came my first winter here when the temperature did not go above zero for the entire month of December. A warm day was zero degrees. My first winter in the Adirondacks almost broke me. I wore alpine clothing for cross-country skiing. By mid-day when the thermostat would top out at -3, I'd think, "I can't believe this." So now, on a day like today when I am waiting for the thermostat to top out around +15 degrees I think back to that first winter and realize, this is easy.
