Carpe Adirondack Diem

The sleet falling from the sky is a clear indication the Adirondack weather roller coaster has picked up steam again. Just as yesterday morning’s -10 degrees temperature was starting to feel tolerable, a front has swept in warming things up to a toasty 28 degrees.
This weather is just what the doctor ordered however. The 18 inches of puffy light snow we received in the past few days, while lovely to behold, did little to create the necessary base in the backcountry. Fortunately for those of us who care about ski conditions in the Adirondacks, this warm front appears to be moving quickly and should be followed by some nice cold air and lake effect snow. This could be a very sweet set up for Adirondack backcountry ski fans! Base consolidation for the backcountry is not a bad medicine to take when there’s more good snow behind it.
No matter, I missed an opportunity this morning when I had the chance to get out and ski before the sleet started. After a quick check on the outdoor conditions, it appears I have been given a second chance. It is no longer sleeting out; time to seize this Adirondack moment!
