Evening Adirondack Ski Report - 12/20/07

Although the calendar claims it is still Fall 07, ski conditions in the Adirondacks are vintage mid-winter, and a good one at that. The back country is in great shape, although there is some concern about avalanche danger. The groomed-out trails such as the Porter Mt. Racing Loops at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, are in outstanding shape for skating or classical skiing. The track is set perfectly for tuck and go, and conditions are fast. The report from Whiteface is that last Sunday at mountain was "some of the best skiing in a lifetime." An old pinhead reports, "Little Whiteface is sick and the glades are good to go." That is, Little Whiteface is really good skiing.
It has been pointed out to me that this blog features skiing a fair amount. I know when I started the blog I made a disclaimer that I like to ski. A lot. And this is an extraordinary ski year, so it deserves mention. I have skied many places in the world, and when we have conditions like this, it is the best skiing to be found on the planet. It certainly feels like I live in paradise today.

Martha Stewart Loves Santa's Workshop Reindeer

Some readers may recall my bit about Santa's Workshop which is located in North Pole, NY - near Wilmington, the home of Whiteface Mountain. I've got the North Pole, NY website open right now, and am having fun making noise with the mouse overs. Go on, do it now.....go to the website, turn on your speakers and roll the mouse over all the links. There is nothing like sleigh bells at 6:30 a.m. to accompany your coffee and morning surf.
Last week, Martha Stewart featured a reindeer from our very own Santa's Workshop in North Pole, NY on her television show. Here is the video clip....sorry about the commercial, but persevere, I think it is worth it. What a way to start the day - sleigh bells on command, Martha Stewart dealing with a reindeer, and sparkley snow still falling outside! Happy December 20 - only 36 hours 'til winter.
