There's No Place Like Home, Especially in the Adirondacks

It happens every year. I get tired of the slow Adirondack transition to Spring and warm weather, so I head south in search of the warmth of the sun. After a few days of crowds and traffic, grumpy and dissatisfied people, ugly polluted vistas, the inevitable overwhelming claustrophobia hits and I can't wait to get back to these lovely, calming Adirondack Mountains.
This is a blog about what it is like to live and own property in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. I moved here 22 years ago to escape the madness of too many people living in one place, raise a family, and enjoy the incredible natural beauty. Trips out of the Adirondacks, like my warmth and sun seeking expedition last week, are an essential part of the Adirondack Lifestyle. Sometimes it seems like we leave so we remember how great it is to return home. We leave temporarily so we can feel the little thrill that comes when you round the bend and spot snow-capped Algonquin Mountain from the Cascade Lakes on Route 73. Granted, life in the Adirondacks isn't always easy. Shopping malls are few and far between. There are days when the thermometer doesn't hit zero or the black flies are biting. But there are more days when the natural beauty stops you in your tracks and simply makes you stand in awe. There are days when you can go for a hike and not see one single person if that is what you need. In the Adirondacks you can pursue most any kind of exercise imaginable. You can paddle, run, hike, bike, ski, swim, climb, do yoga, or split wood to your heart's content. And then you can watch the sun set behind the mountains while sipping a beverage at porch time. Let me know if you are interested in trying out this Adirondack Lifestyle; it might change your life. For the better.
