Arts in the Adirondacks

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour hits Lake Placid this Sunday, February 3 at the Lake Placid Center for The Arts. (LPCA)
"Hot on the heels of the largest and the most prestigious mountain festival in the world, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour has hit the road, with stops planned in more than 275 communities and 30 countries across the globe."
This event gives me an opportunity to discuss two things very dear to my heart: skiing and the arts. I am aware some people believe living in the Adirondacks requires relinquishing all appreciation and live enjoyment of the arts. Not so! As a matter of fact, the Adirondacks have historically provided inspiration to a multitude of artists. Here is a link to a post I did earlier on finding your muse in these lovely Adirondack Mountains. And this link references specific artists who lived in and loved the Adirondacks. Back to skiing and the arts.....we are very fortunate to have an active cultural and arts community in Lake Placid, exemplified by the offerings at LPCA. For example, The Boys of the Lough return this March for another incredible evening of Celtic music. For those unfamiliar with that genre of music, The Boys of the Lough are world renowned musicians; they play Carnegie Hall. And they play Lake Placid! Not too shabby. The Martha Graham dance company spends time here each summer as does the Alvin Ailey dance company.
Oh yes, skiing and the arts.....here's a clip of the 07-08 Banff Mountain Film festival. One of this year's films features John Falkiner, who was our guide on a memorable telemark backcountry ski excursion in the Italian Alps, near Livigno. He was delightful and a great skier - I can't wait to see the flick.
