Bode Rocks!

One of the all-time best skiers in the history of U.S. alpine ski racing, Bode Miller, set a U.S. World Cup record over the weekend. On Sunday in Kitzbuehel, Austria, at the traditional Hahnenkamm, Bode Miller won the combined title for the slalom and Saturday's downhill, which means he is now the most successful American skier ever with 28 World Cup wins, overtaking Phil Mahre. I've always had a special place in my skier's heart for Bode based on his non-traditional upbringing (note to son - you didn't have it so bad - at least we had running water!) and somewhat joyful, rebellious approach to everything including his ski training. Bode is no longer considered a member of the U.S. Ski Team, he trains on his own and has routinely shirked authority; the kind created for the sake of authority. The worst kind in my book. As one can imagine, Bode has annoyed a number of people who find security in following inane rules. Check out this quote from Phil Mahre:
''It's funny, if it wasn't for the press I wouldn't know how many World Cup wins I had because I never paid any attention to it,'' Mahre told the Yakima Herald-Republic. ''(The record) never made any mind to me because it's not a big, big deal.

''Yeah it's an American record, but it's pretty puny in the (overall) record books.''

Right. Ever heard of "sour grapes" Phil?
I'll be back later with a post about how healthy and cool it is to live in the Adirondacks.
