Arts and culture in the Adirondacks

Enter The Haggis put on a good show last Saturday night. I wondered if we would be the oldest people in the room, but I was pleasantly surprised. The audience was an interesting and good mix of baby boomers and twenty somethings. I guess we did have some influence.
Some people think they have to give up or compromise their devotion to the arts in order to live here in the Adirondacks. To the contrary; Adirondack living is inherently creative and inspirational. For example, Georgia O'Keefe was inspired in Lake George. The Adirondacks are, and have traditionally been home to artists and creative people for generations.
Of course, arts and culture mean different things to different people. We enjoy a decent mix of music, dance, theater, museums and local Adirondack culture. For example, if you'd like to learn about the Adirondacks, there is a great museum in Blue Mountain Lake. We are fortunate to have a very active organization, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, here in Lake Placid. Of course, we are just a few hours north of one of the best cities in the world, New York City, and a few hours south of Montreal. At the risk of sounding hokey, there is something for everyone here in the Adirondacks!
