A Unique Adirondack Experience

People have been coming to the Adirondacks seeking health and wellness for more than a century. The healing often manifests itself on a personal, internal level as well as on the physical plane. It seems to have something to do with challenging one's self and spending time outside. That combo seems to work, as we've seen with the success of those fancy and famous programs designed to get kids out of the their element and into the great outdoors. Not many people realize this, but we have our very own program here in the Adirondacks that has a similar mission. Adirondack Experience (AE) is a not-for-profit organization, based on the Adirondack Loj Road outside of Lake Placid, that "creates positive life changes through adventure, education and self-awareness." Adirondack Experience runs year round adventure based programs. Because AE is located within the six million acre Adirondack Park, they have immediate access to hundreds of miles of wilderness. The grounds include 230 acres of mostly forested land, a 100 year old farmhouse, a 40 foot climbing wall and a low and high ropes course. The program is hugely successful and is well respected. I mention this for a number of reasons. First, AE is an important part of the continuum of wellness care in the Adirondacks. They also run a fun program that is available to businesses and organizations for team building. And last, but certainly not least, if you are a golfer, they run an awesome golf tournament on one the best golf courses here in the Adirondacks; the Whiteface Club. This year's event is scheduled for Monday, August 17th, which is a great time of year to be in the Adirondacks playing golf, or playing anything, for that matter. It is also a great opportunity to work on that karma and support a worthy cause.
