Adirondack Caramel

Today's photo features one of the sweetest Adirondack views. It is nature's version of my favorite candy; mineral stained ice, caught mid-flow looking like warm caramel. This flow was spotted near Lake Colden in the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. The resident biologist was on a mission with his trusty sidekick, in search of a resting she-bear who was denned up for the winter near Lake Colden. Since this bear has been eluding the DEC (NY State Department of Environmental Conservation) folks for years, it was no surprise they didn't find her, even with all their electronic gizmos. Despite the fact that she was wearing a radio necklace that emitted a signal which was picked up by their hand-held receiver, she remains hidden and undisturbed, hopefully nursing some cubs. Although the boys were disappointed, I consider the mission a success because Ed took my caramel photos and other great pictures, and it really is sort of neat the bear won this one.
