Yippee!! Here Comes Another Lake Placid Olympics!!!

According to yesterday's New York Times, James Tedisco, Republican nominee in the race to replace Kirsten Gillibrand in the 20th Congressional District and the current minority leader in the New York State Senate, vowed to “be the congressman who brings the Olympics back to Lake Placid.” But he did not explain how he would accomplish such things, except by working “every minute of every day” and getting in people’s faces.
Hey, hey, I have an idea....how about talking to Montreal about a cross-border Olympics? Or, Mr. Tedisco could sit down with his buddy, Sandy Treadwell, and ask him where the rest of the $5 million farewell present from former Governor Pataki went. This is the money that theoretically funded a new Sports Commission after the closure of the original Adirondack Sports Commission, the organization that really did bring Ironman to Lake Placid. Clearly, some of the good-bye gift was spent on the new Lake Placid Winter Sports Committee's lovely website. It seems there should be a little bit of the $5 million left over for seed money for the new Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games effort. Or, perhaps Mr. Treadwell could give Mr. Tedisco some advice about how to win the 20th Congressional race.

The high cost of "hosting" Olympic events scares the hell out of me. Oddly enough, I think LP was one of the last Olympic sites which actually has enjoyed a lengthy economic impact from having the event.

Regarding the ORDA/GOP/$ stuff, interesting stuff, eh?

There is no doubt LP has done a good job leveraging the Olympic legacy. Just look at the economic impact from ice hockey alone. I still believe a "smart" Adirondack Olympics is viable. Use current assets, etc. That was one of the reasons the cross border idea was so cool.

Re: the other stuff - "mind-boggling" is the correct phrase.
