Adirondack Moose Report

I have it on good authority that moose sightings in the Adirondacks have increased steadily over the past two years, and have shot up this spring. There are now so many moose in the Adirondacks that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is working with the Department of Transportation to erect cool, new "Moose X-ing" signs!!! Moose crossing sign are now up near Bloomingdale, New York, between Vermontville and the Clinton County line. New signs are scheduled to be installed on Route 30, just north of Paul Smith's. These and the signs that have been north of Speculator, New York, on Route 30 for years, are the only moose signs in New York State. This is quite interesting and exciting news since we are experiencing a biological comeback of the species in New York State. The moose recolonization that has picked up steam in the last twenty years here in New York State, has been occurring across New England for the past thirty-five years. The State of Maine and the Province of Quebec were the main 'seed source' for the recolonization. As I mentioned in a prior post, it is an amazing but little known fact that the moose like to swim across Lake Champlain from Vermont to get to the Adirondacks. I guess they've heard about our awesome Adirondack Lifestyle!
