Studying Bullwinkle's Personal Habits

I thought it was a little odd recently when the resident biologist mentioned his day included following dogs through the woods who were trained to find moose "scat." For the uninitiated, scat is a scientist's or hunter's word for number two. There really are dogs trained to differentiate moose scat from deer, raccoon, turtle, salamander or any of the bzillion piles of poop in the woods. I was a little skeptical that there was a scientific reason for this day's folly, but figured it must be true since I read it in the New York Times. So now we know, moose really do s--t in the woods.
