Greetings to Asbury Park

Last week was a very busy one here in the Village of Lake Placid. It was President's Week and the skiing was great. It was one of the busiest winter weeks in recent memory. It was during that time as I sat in traffic on Main Street, anxiously looking for a parking spot near the Candy Man so I could get my weekly chocolate fix, that I decided to count the number of cars in the opposite lane with New Jersey license plates. I did this for two reasons; one, I was pretty bored and I am from South Jersey, and two, it seems the number of visitors to the Adirondacks from the Garden State increases exponentially each year. At various points in the traffic flow, four out of seven cars sported Jersey plates! I'm no math wiz, but that correlates to a hypothesis that better than half of the visitors or second homers to the Adirondacks are from New Jersey. Also during that week, I had the pleasure of showing property to a nice family from Jersey who love to ski and appreciate the beauty of the Adirondacks. They said they want their daughters to have the opportunity to spend time here. I take a boat load of grief because I am from Jersey. How many times do you think I've heard the question, "What exit?" Har-har-har. We New Jersey natives suffer a bad rap, like we can't live without a mall or something. That's why they make catalog and online shopping, by the way. I am proud of my ocean-loving, surf-riding, sand-in-my-toes, smell the saltwater heritage. The Adirondacks are great, but I love going down the shore too. There we go - I am out of the closet. And I am pleased to see my fellow Jersey-ites, like Mr. Springsteen himself, appreciate the great Adirondack North Country. So, if you live in New Jersey, or are a Jersey native, and are interested in the Adirondacks, please proudly leave a comment here or drop me an email. I understand.
