Hanging Out and Chilling in the Adirondacks

The Village of Lake Placid and surrounding Adirondacks are bustling with visitors and plenty to do this holiday weekend. There is so much going on and so many recreational opportunities that I am sometimes overwhelmed with options. Driving North on Route 73 yesterday I noticed the parking jam and clutches of people in funny looking pants near the Pitchoff ice climbing cliffs. Aha! I realized it is Mountainfest weekend. Mountainfest is a weekend long celebration of climbing and mountaineering, with films and clinics about ski mountaineering, and ice and rock climbing. It appears I missed the avalanche clinic again this year. Then, on the way home from the Village, I noticed the ski jumping complex appeared busy, and lo and behold, there is a World Cup Freestyle Ski Jumping event in town! So, that must be why all those extremely buff looking, foreign sounding people were hogging the equipment at the gym this past week. However, it seems keeping me the busiest these days (besides real estate - seriously) is the skiing, which is super on all counts; downhill at Whiteface, cross-country and back country....skiing's great in New York State!
