Adirondack Lifestyle for Kids at Heart

One of the things I liked most about being a kid is that we were allowed to live in our own world most of the time. You could get away with spacing out and playing with toys because you were six. And you could believe in Santa Claus. Not that there is any reason *not* to believe in Santa, for all you kids out there who googled "Santa Claus" and ended up reading this blog. As a matter of fact, if you are interested in seeing where Santa lives and raises his reindeer, you can visit Santa's Workshop in North Pole, New York, in the Adirondack Mountains. You really should go to their web site and mouse over all the links with the sound on. Writing this post gave me an excuse to go to their site and play jingle bells.
Santa's Workshop is the oldest theme park in America. It opened in 1949 and is a classic. If you have an imagination and kids, or can borrow some kids, it is worth a trip. It is a self-contained, complete town where Santa and the crew live and work, making toys mostly. It is located about 3/4 of the way up the Whiteface Toll road, the Whiteface Memorial Highway, before it becomes a toll road, in Wilmington, NY. There are live reindeer, the "Candy Cane Express" train ride, elves and snow people walking around, and a chance to sit on Santa's lap. It can get pretty sweet with all the singing, etc., hokey at its best, but kids love it. Adults with the right mindset can enjoy it too.
In my opinion, it would be easy to rationalize bringing the kids up to see Santa's Workshop based on this Adirondack ski report: lots of snow fell last night and skiing is great.
