Waiting for a Sneeze

Like Puz, who sneezes when he is excited, we are all just sitting around waiting. Waiting for ski season to begin for real, waiting for our brave new world to start on January 20th, waiting for another bank to fail, oops, never mind.
On a totally positive note, there is one thing that is sure to be worth waiting for this season: the opening of the new ski trails at the Olympic Mountain, Whiteface, in Wilmington, New York. I can confirm that this has been one of the best early seasons for snow making in a long time. The deep and dry cold temperatures have allowed the folks at Whiteface to have the snow guns running at peak capacity. Everything seems to be on schedule for opening this Friday, November 28. For those of you who are not familiar with skiing at Whiteface Mountain, I suggest you consider making the trip. Although there are plenty of greens and easy blue trails, the expert skiing is genuinely some of the best in the east. There is also a certain charm to the pared down version of a state-run ski resort. Without a shred of pretense, Whiteface accepts all kinds of skiers, from world-class athletes to weekenders, to die-hard locals. Today's photo features the resident lab, performing his version of bird hunting these days; waiting for one to cross the yard.
