Adirondack Fall Report 10-06-08

Although the foliage is technically 'past peak,' a walk in the woods still yields breathe-taking moments of neon colors and smells of Autumn in the Adirondacks. Trail running is absolutely superb these days. The views and great feeling associated with being outdoors this time of year even makes hill bounding seem like fun. Some kind of frozen precipitation fell overnight and we woke to find everything covered with a thin layer of ice. As the sun hits the trees, I can hear the drip of ice melting. Today's photo was taken this morning and is one of the maples in our yard. Over the years, we've encountered tourists who wander into our yard to take pictures of the lovely foliage. It is an odd feeling to encounter a stranger on your property, but hard to complain since they are clearly people who share an appreciation of nature.
