Lucky You - More Adirondack Playground Available!

The Nature Conservancy, an international preservation group, announced the purchase of a 14,600 acre piece of the Adirondacks yesterday. The parcel includes Follensby Pond, site of the famous 1958 gathering known as the Philosophers’ Camp, where Ralph Waldo Emerson and other Boston-area intellectuals spent a month fishing, hunting, painting and writing. Among those joining Emerson were the painter William James Stillman, the poet James Russell Lowell and the scientist Louis Agassi. According to Mike Carr, Executive Director of the Adirondack Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, "This is one for the history books."
I'll say! This is my favorite quote from the linked NY Times article:

“It was an early moment in the development of the idea that there was something sublime about nature,” said Bill McKibben, a scholar in residence at Middlebury College in Vermont. “Nature was starting to play a less utilitarian function and a more aesthetic and intellectual one.”

Something sublime about nature is a good way of describing what I have been up to this point unable to describe.
