Skiing Whiteface - the Olympic Mountain

All reports confirm skiing's great in New York State! We can say for sure, skiing's great in the Adirondacks, anyway.
Whiteface, the Adirondack's Olympic Mountain, opened this past weekend
"with what is possibly the best early season coverage and conditions ever. The coverage was excellent with absolutely no rocks to be found anywhere. The conditions were dry winter snow, very little hard pack and absolutely not an icy spot anywhere. According to Jay Rand, the new compressors have made a significant difference and his staff is really psyched at the prospects of turning out such a great product."

That is a quote from a very credible source who skied at the mountain this past weekend. This source is probably one of the smartest people I know, especially concerning the Adirondacks, real estate and most importantly, skiing. That is good news for us skiers. I am well aware of the old "Iceface" reputation out there. I've selfishly been tempted to feed it, truth be told, just to keep the numbers down. It really is fun to ski fresh powder on a blue-bird day, all by yourself. But Whiteface hasn't been it's old icey self for a number of years. The mountain has provided me great skiing in recent memory. I look forward to hearing from anyone who can give us a more historical opinion, but it is good to hear the skiing's great already.
