My New Adirondack Neighbor

I started to hear a peculiar rustling in the woods here at the homestead a few months ago. Since I spend a great deal of time on the porch and deck, I knew this was a new sound, and it meant there was something large hanging around the property. Then, it was about a month ago when the little doe shown in today's featured photo went public with her appetite for something growing in my yard. She has since grown very accustomed to my presence and, as a result, I spend far too much time watching her and taking photos. I am intrigued with how delicate she is. She tip-toes across the driveway as if the pebbles hurt her toes, drawn by the promise of something better to eat on the other side. She seems very content with the arrangement; she watches me 'sneak' up to take her photograph and I let her eat whatever she wants in my yard. I know some of my blog readers are wondering why I am so pleased to have a deer hanging around my house since they can be a nuisance. Because of the severity of Adirondack winter, we do not have a large deer population, so to see one is a rarity for me. Although I will avoid naming her because I know she may not be around after the fall hunting season, it is nice to have such a lovely and pleasant neighbor.
