Domino Effects for the Adirondacks

People talk about the effects of acid rain on the Adirondack all the time. You seldom hear much however, about the effect of world and national politics on our spot in the world. There is an interesting little Adirondack saga going on right now that stems from a person of international significance. This domino effect started with ex- New York State Senator, Hillary Clinton, when she accepted the position of Secretary of State for President Obama. When Governor Paterson had to appoint someone to replace her, he choose our Congressional Representative, Kirsten Gillibrand. Kirsten Gillibrand is a Democrat who took the seat from the Republicans when she beat Representative John Sweeney in a brutal race from which the GOP has not recovered. We Adirondackers got to vote for a congressional representative again in a special election, which was just held. This time, an unknown-out-of-nowhere Democrat, Scott Murphy, gave New York State Assemblyman and well-know Republican Jim Tedisco, a run for his money. The election was too close to call and they are now recounting the votes. So, we have our little, ongoing Adirondack political hanging chad drama, which of course, John Sweeney knows all about. What a small world.
