More Sports and Economic Development

This weekend, Lake Placid hosts another prestigious, fun and economically positive sporting event. It’s “Game On” starting Saturday, as the semifinals kick off two days of action in the NCAA Men’s Division III Frozen Four Ice Hockey Championships at the Olympic Center. Norwich University, St. Norbert College, Plattsburgh State University and Elmira College have earned trips to Lake Placid to compete on the historic 1980 Rink for a national title. Saturday will feature two semifinal games at 2:30 and 6 p.m., with the winners advancing to Sunday’s title tilt scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
"Frozen Four" is an apt description for Lake Placid these days. Despite what the calendar shows, it is still mid-winter here in the Adirondacks. It was three degrees out at the homestead this morning, and we received at least 6 inches of fresh powder over the last few days. Whiteface Mountain has had some problems with high winds, but the skiing at Mount Van Hoevenberg and in the backcountry is great. We are in the middle of a beautiful but cold trend. The sky is clear and Adirondack Blue, the sun is bright and we've been able to ski until 7:30 p.m. For a die hard skier, this is a yummy spring treat; better than a peep, and just continues the incredible season we've enjoyed. For the local economy, the lovely weather and exciting sporting event is also a treat as town is packed with skiers and hockey fans.
