Adirondack Rocks the New York Times

Today's New York Times article about rock climbing in the Adirondacks and my friend, Mark Meschinelli, a climbing guide, back country skier, photographer and cobbler extraordinaire, finally knocked me out of my Adirondack wildflower-induced blog rut. Although I am too chicken to be a rock climber, I know the Adirondacks are a favorite spot for rock climbers and I don't mention it enough. Rock and ice climbing enthusiasts come from all over the world to climb in the craggy Adirondack Mountains. The sport is very popular locally, with several public and private indoor climbing walls. The hugely popular Pitchoff ice climbing route is on the Jackrabbit Trail, not far from my back yard, so I've had ample opportunity to give rock climbing a shot. Although I am just not brave enough and will not try it, I still marvel at the fitness and skill required for such a sport. So, if you are a rock or ice climber who happened to stumble upon this blog, visit the Adirondacks or 'Dacks as I've heard them called, for some challenging but fun climbing.
