Heeeeey Babe-eee or Get Outtt-ta Here!

Today's photo is the Black-capped chickadee, maybe the most plentiful bird species present in the Adirondacks. Click here if you have speakers, for an auditory experience of what I am going to try and describe.
Living in the forest, we cannot help but be impressed with the Springtime sound track. The din around the homestead is incredible. We have the Chickadees nonstop. Apparently, the males are the singers. Their vocalizations establish their territory and let the girls know they are around. So, even though it sounds nice to us, they are actually yelling, "Get outta here!" to other males, and "Hey babeee!" to the females. Regardless of message, most of the bird sounds are very pleasant. The Thrushes are beautiful in the evening and the Cardinals and Robins sound very cool. The Woodpecker however, is the annoying guy who just won't go away. At first, he is kind of fun with his raucous manners, but when a Woodpecker is hammering on a metal drum or your house at 5:30 in the morning it can get on your nerves.
In any case, yes, Spring in the Adirondacks is beautiful too. We have enjoyed temperatures in the 70s and even low 80s. Road biking season is underway and most of the roads have been cleaned of the winter's sand and debris. Spring in the Adirondacks is actually one of the best times to visit. There are no bugs, nights are cool but the sun is quite warm. And, the birds are singing.
